Stonehenge At Last

The Pillars of Stonehenge

The Pillars of Stonehenge

My whole life I have been fascinated by ancient cultures and what is still standing after all this time. So when I traveled to London for the first time I was super excited that Stonehenge wasn’t too far away. Unfortunately, we just happened to be there during an unusual cold front and it ended up snowing all over the United Kingdom making a journey to the English countryside nearly impossible. Even though I was unable to visit it then that trip, it planted and even larger desire to come back and make the venture out to Stonehenge a reality.

A year or so later, a very good friend of mine invited me to come adventuring with her and her sisters while they were visiting and on their agenda was a trip to England. The first thing I asked was if Stonehenge was going to be in the plans. After a confirmed yes that it was, I knew I would do anything I could to make it possible for me to be there.

Once we arrived in London, our trip had some interesting twists. One of which England having a hot streak. At least a hot streak would not hinder our plans for traveling to the countryside. On the third day we barely made it to the bus terminal for tour in time (London traffic can be unfriendly when you are in a rush). Leaving the city started to bring beautiful landscapes in to view. Then after about a two hour drive in a bus, there on the right side of the road I could see out my window the ancient stone pillars from a distance. I could hardly contain my excitement enough to grab out my camera and snap a few shots. There was no way I was going to miss any shot I could get.

Once we arrived at the visitor’s center my excitement grew larger and larger. The wait for shuttle from the visitor’s center to Stonehenge was almost unbearable but once I got off the shuttle and started the walk to the site, I was mesmerized. Standing next to such an ancient manmade structure was truly an unique experience. I slowly walked all the way around it, taking photos and studying the stones. I could feel the weight of history as I stood there and it echoed to my soul. I could imagine what it must of looked like so long ago and how many people over the centuries have come to soak up this amazing site. This truly was a moment I will never forget.

While a photograph can never be a true substitute for such an experience, I believe captured some Stonehenge’s magnificence. You will have to be the judge for yourself but for me they will always bring me to that summer day where I felt history’s pull. I strongly recommend a visit for anybody traveling to England who has any kind of fascination with history and ancient cultures.

  1. but where did humans come from in the first place? From apes?? But where is the link from apes to human? apes did eovlve into Neanderthals, but there is no link between them and US! im guessing alians came took the Neanderthals (as they had the closest DNA match to them and where more then likely the most advanced animal at the time) and implanted there alien blood in them. then put em back on earth to eovlve, but it took to long so they began mating subspecies (humans) and aliens to speed it up
