How to Improve Your Photography without Upgrading Your Camera

Today I am sharing a photo tip that is actually about ‪‎lenses‬.

A lot of people, especially hobby photographers, when they buy their first camera and lens are so excited and photograph just with what they have. Well a little while down the road, after getting some experience the photographer starts to feel limited about what they can do. At this point some start looking at new cameras or new lenses or new equipment in general. This is also a good time to maybe take up some photography classes or something to get you out of your rut. If you have a DSLR or a mirrorless SLR you should always start looking at lenses before considering a new camera.

You can take the same beginner level SLR and improve how your photos look by just upgrading the lenses. You might have started out with a kit lens, so look into getting something specific for what you like to photograph. If you are big into close ups and nature, try a macro lens; if you are into landscapes, try a telephoto lens; and so on. Ask around, if you know a person with that kind of lens see if you can use it. Or there are even places where you can rent lenses and other photo equipment. That is great, it is always nice to try before you buy.

You will know when you have outgrown your camera (for some you will never get to this point and that’s ok) when you could have all the fancy lenses in the world and you still want to push it. At that time is when you want to upgrade your camera. I have been shooting with the same camera for years and have just invested in more lenses. If you take care of your camera it can really last.
