Sharing a photo tip today, don’t be discouraged when the weather doesn’t always give you beautiful blue skies with puffy white clouds for your backdrops, you can still make great outdoor photos even with grey skies.
I know that here in Germany most of the winter it can be quite gloomy outside. This cannot stop you from going out and photographing. Sometimes grey skies can be better for photos, the light is diffused so you don’t have any harsh shadows or have to worry about where the sun is and if it is in the right position. Cloudy or grey skies can also be great for portraits for this reason.
Below are two landscape photos I shot with grey skies, the first is from Heidelberg, Germany in January. Like I said, almost always grey there that time of year. The second, is Stonehenge in England. It was funny that it was grey skies because it was sunny and hot in London the week I was there and just so happened to be grey out on the plains when we went out to Stonehenge. You can’t control mother nature but you can control how your photos will look. Embrace the softer light these days can bring you.
