April’s calendar is featuring the beautiful yellow fields full of rape seed flowers that fill the German landscape in April.

One of my favorite parts about living in Germany is that every spring in April the yellow fields full of the bright rape seed flowers bloom. I am so excited to see them bloom for a third year, I love going out and photographing them as much as I can, because they don’t last more than a month usually. They cover so much of the German countryside that even driving down the autobahn can be amazingly beautiful.

The rape seed flowers are harvested to make the canola oil so it is also a crop. I think that is why they come up everywhere in the German countryside. Germany is always beautiful; it is so green even in the winter, thanks to all the evergreens, but this is the one time of year where it is yellow and green. I would encourage anybody who comes to Germany this time of year to explore the countryside a little and enjoy its green and yellow beauty.
