One of things I love about traveling around Germany is visiting all the castles. I call it “castle hunting”. I am determined to see as many castles as I can while I am here in Germany. After doing some research, I found Marksburg Castle on list to visit not too far from Frankfurt. I found their website and planned out a day trip with a friend. This amazing castle was very worth the visit.
The town was one of those charming little German towns that was fun to drive through and explore. Once we made it to the top of hill where the castle is located we enjoyed a little hike up the hill. The views are amazing and the castle is beautiful. It sits on hill over looking the Rhine with the countryside and towns below. You can even see another castle in the distance across the river.
The tour was interesting and we lucked out and ended up in a small one. We got to see a little garden that had an interesting selection of plants and flowers and an armory with weapons and armor throughout the ages. Hearing the stories of why it was built, who lived there, and what they did are always fascinating to me. We got to see how the kitchen was used and learn about see large wine barrels and how they made wine. What was really intriguing was learning that recently that had a group of people stay there and live like people did back then. The kitchen still smelled amazing. Hearing the stories of why it was built, who lived there, and what they did are always fascinating to me.
If you are interesting in purchasing some of this art work, you can find them in my German Travels collection and Natural Beauty. I highly recommend a visit and deeply enjoyed my time there. Truly an artist and photographer’s dream.
